According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 25, all water-based fire protection systems here in the Bay Area & Silicon Valley, such as fire sprinkler systems, must be inspected, tested, and maintained on a regular basis. This includes a visual inspection of the system, testing of the system components, and maintenance of the components and other related system components. The frequency of these inspections and tests will vary depending on the type of system and its location.

5-year fire sprinkler system inspection
Overview
We provide comprehensive fire sprinkler system inspections including the NFPA-25 required 5-year inspection, testing and maintenance for businesses. 5-year internal pipe inspections check for the presence of foreign objects as well as corrosion and evidence of Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC).
What tests are performed during an NFPA-25 mandatory 5-year test?
NFPA-25 requires all businesses in the Bay Area & Silicon Valley conduct an internal inspection of their fire sprinkler system piping every five years. Of primary concern is the presence of foreign organic and inorganic material which can cause obstructions to pipe and fire sprinklers.
There are 4 types of fire sprinkler systems: wet, dry, pre-action and deluge systems. These systems have several similar components, and they all require 5-year fire sprinkler system inspection, testing, and maintenance.

MIC testing
The presence of “Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion”, commonly referred to as MIC, has been established as a contributing factor to the corrosion affecting sprinkler system piping.
To address this concern, we will take a collection of water or sludge samples from the fire sprinkler system piping and then send to an independent testing laboratory for thorough analysis. Based on the findings of this analysis, we will devise a tailored plan for addressing and mitigating the MIC issue.
MIC tests should be done regularly in the Bay Area & Silicon Valley to prevent corrosion, mitigate fire sprinkler repairs , and extend the life of your fire sprinkler system.
